BENFIELD UCL HAZARD RESEARCH CENTRE

The Benfield Hazard Research Centre contains an extensive natural hazard library, including many specialist and industry-related publications which may be unavailable in the DMS Watson Science Library.

It also serves as the administrative hub for hazard-related courses and conferences within UCL.

 

REGISTRATION

All students are required to enroll with the Registrar's division within two weeks of the start of the programme. A UCL ID card cannot be issued until enrolment has been completed. Further information will be provided at induction.

The Registrar's Office is located in room G20 of the Registrar's division in the South Wing.

Opening hours:

Monday - Friday 09:00 - 17:00

 

ID CARDS

Information on ID cards will be provided at induction.

 

LECTURE THEATRE

Lectures will be held at 188 Tottenham Court Road, Room SB5.

 

SCIENCE LIBRARY

UCL has nineteen libraries, containing over one and a half million books in total. Science books and journals relevant to the certificate prgramme are held at the DMS Watson Science Library.

Opening hours:

Monday - Friday: 09:30 - 22:30
Weekends - 11:00 - 17:00 (Term time only)

During term time, reading rooms within the library remain open until 22:30. The issue desk closes at 18:45.

 

STUDENT UNION

The UCL Student Union is located at the juncture between Gordon Street and Gower Place. Gordons Cafe on the ground floor serves hot beverages and snacks during the day and doubles as a bar in the evenings. Additional and larger bars are located on the second and third floors.

A small newsagent is also located on the ground floor.

Only UCL ID holders will be granted access after 17:00. Additional guests may be signed in by the cardholder.

GRADUATE SCHOOL

Students registered on the Natural Hazards for Insurers postgraduate certificate programme are automatically members of the Graduate School. UCL has over 6000 graduates - more than a third of the student total. Graduate School facilities include a common room and a computer cluster. Information can be found at:

COMPUTER CLUSTERS

Computing facilities are available in the D.M.S Watson Science Library and in the Graduate School. A UCL computer ID is required to log onto the network. Obtaining an ID will be addressed at induction.

 

REFRESHMENTS

Refreshments are available at 4 locations over the central UCL campus.

REFECTORY - Hot food & freshly-made baguettes daily.

OLD REFECTORY - Located on the ground floor of the Wilkins Building. Serves hot beverages, alcohol and hot food.

BLOOMSBURY THEATRE CAFE - Coffee & sandwiches all day long.

Snacks are available from the university shops.
